Shiatsu is a Japanese style of massage which relieves stress, aches and pains, strengthens your immune system and keeps you emotionally balanced. Shiatsu is similar in principle to acupuncture but is accomplished with touch as opposed to needles. It is a system of healing and health maintenance based on your body's natural energy or Chi which runs in pathways called meridians all over our bodies. Applying pressure to the meridian pathways frees up the movement of this energy thus promoting health and well-being.

The style of Shiatsu I practice is called Zen Shiatsu. What distinguishes Zen Shiatsu from other styles of Shiatsu is that it includes an assessment of your body’s energy through light touch to the abdomen. This allows me to tailor make your session to your body’s immediate as well as long term needs. I have also expanded my work to include Pauline Sasaki’s innovative technique of Quantum Shiatsu which I integrate into my sessions depending on your needs.

Shiatsu is an excellent stress reliever, and can be very effective in the treatment of sciatica, headaches, fibromyalgia, support of pregnancy and menopause, as well as many common ailments. It also offers psychological as well as physical benefits, as each meridian has an emotional aspect, allowing for an overall feeling of well-being.

As with western styles of massage therapy, one feels relaxed as muscle tension and stress fade leaving you with a lasting effect of well-being after your session. As no direct contact with the skin is required, there are no oils used. Nonrestrictive, comfortable clothing is worn while receiving Shiatsu.

“I like Shiatsu because not only does it help my aches and pains,
it keeps me emotionally balanced too.”
